The Mekong Delta covers an area of approximately 40,000 square kilometers to the west of Ho Chi Minh City. The Mekong Delta is where the river completes its 4,300 km decent from the Tibetan plateau and spills out into the sea at the southern tip of Vietnam.

The area is home to lush green rice fields, tropical fruit plantations and most all coconuts farms.  Ben Tre is referred to as the ‘Coconut Kingdom’ and the air is perfumed by the abundance of plantations.  The Delta is the largest producer of rice, yielding roughly 20 million tons annually. Fishing is also a prominent industry and a large staple of the average Vietnamese diet. The Delta and it’s tributaries are the life blood of commerce in the region. A trip by boat one can see the necessity of the river system for local commerce. Floating markets, cargo transport, ferry crossings all make up the fabric of what makes the Delta tick.
